Karen originally joined Sharp Tudhope in 1987 and worked as a staff solicitor for five years before leaving to become a partner in a Mount Maunganui law firm and then opening her own successful legal practice. She returned in 2012 as a Consultant bringing with her more than 30 years industry expertise.
Karen specialises in dealing with relationship property issues including relationship property division, de facto property and trust work. She is also an expert in cases involving people who are unable to make decisions for themselves about their property, welfare and care. Karen has comprehensive experience in conveyancing, property and the general litigation field and is supported by her Legal Assistant, Karla Sweeney. Karla also has more than 20 years legal experience and this combination ensures clients receive first class service.
Karen leads and mentors the Sharp Tudhope family team of Lauren Qiu (non-contentious relationship property) and Sophie Harrigan (contentious general family law and relationship property). In addition, Karen continues to be actively involved in the Family Court advocating for clients and dealing with complex property divisions involving companies, trusts and partnerships.
She believes collaboration between clients and their advisors is critical and aims to keep her clients well-informed and involved throughout the legal process. Karen enjoys acting for multiple generations of families and endeavours to focus on finding a solution rather than litigation.
Karen is a Mount local, and apart from time spent at university and travelling overseas, has lived here since 1971.
