James is an experienced commercial lawyer and advises clients on a broad range of commercial, corporate and projects matters.
He has advised clients on a wide range of complex and high-profile transactions at top tier law firms in New Zealand and internationally during his time at a global law firm in London.
James focuses on commercial and operational arrangements, infrastructure, joint ventures, supply and distribution arrangements, projects, finance, syndications, acquisitions and divestments.
He is pragmatic in his approach and clients highly value his practical solutions to legal issues and advice on structuring and risk mitigation strategies.
James’ extensive experience spans many sectors including energy, ports, water, agribusiness, post harvest export, manufacturing and processing, transport, education, corrections and housing.
In 2024, James led the team that advised BayTrust, TECT, Trust Horizon, and Rotorua Trust on their investment in the Bay of Plenty Housing Equity Fund (BOPHEF). The BOPHEF aims to address the urgent housing needs in the Bay of Plenty by providing affordable housing in areas that need it most. This innovative work was recognised as an Excellence Awardee and was a finalist for the ‘Equity Market Deal of the Year’ at the NZ Law Awards.
