La Toya Waho

La Toya’s story

I joined the firm early in 2023, having recently finished my studies at the University of Waikato.

Law was never really a career I saw myself in, but as time passed and after raising children, travelling, and living abroad, my perspective shifted. As my children became more independent, my time freed up, leading me to contemplate my future. I considered how I could further challenge myself and contribute meaningfully to society, where I saw myself in the future and more importantly, how to be a positive role model in my children’s lives. This became a huge turning point for me and it didn’t take long before I enrolled in law school.

I have now been with the firm for over a year as a solicitor in the commercial team. This past year has been full of valuable learnings, challenges (mostly good), connecting with and helping clients, lunches with colleagues, and lots and lots of coffees. I am grateful to be getting a good start to my career while working alongside talented lawyers and a helpful support team.

What I enjoy most about being a lawyer at Sharp Tudhope is that I am surrounded by good people, I am constantly learning and problem-solving, I get to collaborate closely with my team, and I get to help clients navigate the law. I love that every day is different and that I get to be a part of some super interesting work. I have had lots of support both personally and professionally from the firm to be able to develop my skills as a lawyer and a life-long learner. I am excited for this new chapter of my life and to see where my career takes me.
